Warm feet, warm hearts

I was several months into learning to knit when a saleswoman at the craft store mentioned she used a certain yarn for slippers. I thought, "Oh yeah, slippers!" My grandma used to make knitted slippers for my whole family. We called them "booties" – even the adults! So I started searching for slipper patterns online and eventually found some great ones on Kween Bee. I've made a couple of different patterns from the site but my favourites so far are their adult bootie slippers because of the snug band that keeps them on your feet.

I've made several pairs of these slippers. Above are my husband's (left) and mine. I made these with Heartland Yarn from Lion Brand, a soft acrylic yarn whose colours are named after American landmarks. The colour names are quite important to me when choosing yarn, for some reason! I knit my husband's slippers in the Kings Canyon shade and mine in Rocky Mountains.

Mine are a bit fuzzier, since I've washed them a few times

The band keeps them on really snugly. In fact, in my husband's case, the band borders on too snug when he's putting them on, so I'd suggest adding a few more stitches to the band if the person you're making them for has larger ankles. But it's an improvement over the first style of slippers I made using a different pattern, which just fall off everyone's feet.

I like this pattern because I get to pick up stitches for the band and for me, picking up stitches is one of the coolest things in knitting.
